Changes coming to the Trackside District - Downtown Columbus
Business Improvement District has been busy
The Business Improvement District (BID) has been hard at work this month, bringing several exciting projects to life in the Trackside District – Downtown Columbus.Billboard going up soon!
First, if you're driving north into town, be on the lookout for a brand-new billboard at the top of the 33rd Ave/Highway 30 viaduct. This billboard will welcome everyone to the heart of downtown, showcasing the vibrant Trackside District and encouraging visitors and residents alike to experience all it has to offer.Frankfort Square Permanent Lighting
In another big move, the BID is moving ahead with plans to install permanent lighting in Frankfort Square. The lights will not only illuminate the Square but also bring a dynamic touch to events and holidays. The new lighting system can be programmed to change colors, adding a festive glow during different seasons or in celebration of community events. This enhancement will further elevate the Square’s role as a central hub for gatherings and entertainment. The project will need approval from the City Council, so the BID is hopeful it will be on the agenda in October.
On the practical side, the BID, in collaboration with Keep Columbus Beautiful, has installed new trash cans throughout downtown. These locally sourced cans were recently put in place by the City of Columbus Street crew, who also handle their maintenance and upkeep. Some of the old trash cans, which had been in place for over 20 years, are being repurposed for future pedestal-style sculptures as part of the Sculpture Walk. The addition of these new cans aims to keep the district clean and welcoming for everyone.
Facade Improvements
The BID is also supporting the beautification of downtown businesses through its facade grant program. To date, seven different businesses/properties in the Trackside District have been awarded funds. If you’re interested in enhancing your building's facade, email Jean Van Iperen at [email protected] for more information.
BID Meeting
The BID Board holds monthly meetings that are open to the public, so if you’re interested in learning more about what the Board is working on or have ideas to contribute, feel free to attend. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 7 at 1 p.m. in the Community Room on the third floor of the Columbus Community Building, located at 2500 14th Street. Your participation and input are always welcome as we continue to improve and enhance the downtown area.
These projects reflect the BID’s ongoing commitment to enhancing downtown Columbus, making it a vibrant and inviting destination for all. Keep an eye out for these updates, and take pride in being part of a community that continues to invest in its future.
