Starting our day in Downtown Columbus with a breakfast favorite, we head to Reeders 11th Street Grub and Pub. This family owned establishment beckons with its epic breakfast menu, ensuring early risers start their day on a delicious note. Their hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Daylight Donuts
If a full breakfast meal isn't quite what you're craving, the Trackside District has other great options. Daylight Donuts, located at 1266 27th Ave., opens bright and early at 4:30 a.m. and stays open until 11 a.m. They offer a tempting variety of donuts, including cake donuts, jelly-filled, long johns, turnovers, fritters, and more, with plenty of topping choices. Their menu also features made-from-scratch biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, and burritos. For those with dietary restrictions, gluten-free donuts and muffins are available. Picket Fence Cafe
Another fantastic spot for breakfast and lunch is the Picket Fence Cafe, located at 2714 13th St. This charming cafe, with its cozy country decor and iconic white picket fence, is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Start your day with classic breakfast options like hashbrowns, pancakes, sausage, ham or bacon, breakfast burritos, a variety of toast, and five different egg preparations. Their omelets and skillets are also crowd-pleasers. For lunch, choose from a range of salads, specialty sandwiches, or a classic burger. You can also add one of several different sidekicks, or go for heartier fare like the hot beef sandwich, chicken fried steak sandwich, or fish and chips. Oh did we forget to mention their homemade soup of the day? If you can't find something you like on their extensive menu, you're not looking hard enough!
Brickside Bar & Patio
Our next stop on the tour is Brickside Bar & Patio, nestled in the iconic Freidhof Building right next to the Oak Room of Columbus. This spot is ideal whether you're catching a game or hosting friends. The Brickside Patio offers a welcoming, cozy atmosphere with direct access to the street-side patio, making it perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal on pleasant Columbus days. Known for serving the best Philly in town, Brickside also features deluxe burgers with smoked patties, cheese, and bakery buns. And if you're fortunate enough to visit on a day when their macaroni salad is available, be sure to try it—locals swear it's a must-have!
Glur's Tavern
Established circa 1876 as the Bucher Saloon, Glur's Tavern holds the title of the oldest continuously operated tavern west of the Missouri River. This historic establishment, once frequented by William "Buffalo Bill" Cody in the 1880s and early 1900s, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Renowned for its famous burgers at reasonable prices, Glur's Tavern remains a cherished landmark in the heart of Columbus.
